Austin Wright, the highly-sought-after lefty-handed pitcher from Schaumburg, IL, officially signed his letter of intent with the University of Arkansas in November 2007. He will join the Razorbacks for the 2009 season.
The Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic is the nation's premier high school baseball game, featuring the best 38 players in the country entering their senior year. Wright pitched 1 inning with 1 hit, 1 earned run, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts for the West at the fifth annual Aflac Classic this past summer.
“Wright possesses a big, durable frame and plenty of arm strength. He creates good downward plane on a fastball that he can throw in the low-90s, and complements it with a sharp curveball that has downward bite,” says the Aflac All-American scouting report.
Wright fared even better at the 2007 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars. As part of the American Legion National Team he pitched earned two wins over 9.1 innings with a 0.00 ERA. He allowed only three hits, no walks and struck out 15. Watch our video of Austin Wright
